I've mentioned it here before that I am working on the 1989 Hoops and how it has been a minor obsession for me over the years.

1989 was the year basketball cards really became mainstream, with the introduction of the greatly overproduced (and affordable) Hoops brand. The David Robinson rookie was the key card to the set, and I remember it going for $20-30. They weren't the best design ever, but they did have big white borders which looked good to me for getting autographed.

In the early to mid 90's, I decided to go after this set and made a pretty serious dent in it. By 2000, I had 70% done. The past few years, I've been trying to fill in what I can find here and there - and I was 19 away going into 2008.

So you can imagine my excitement when another member contacted me and let me know he was breaking up his set (he wasn't quite as far along as I was). He sent me scans of the following three cards I needed:

So he sent me these 3 card and Craig Hodges (to upgrade the one I had that was signed on the back). So now I am 16 away from finishing the set.

There are some tough I still need, but I thik the toughest will be Ricky Berry who played 1 year in the NBA (1988) and committed suicide in 1989. I've never seen a Ricky Berry autograph, but I'm sure it exists somewhere.
