1990 ProSet Hockey and a nice trade Friday, December 7, 2007 Posted by jaygross Comments: 1
I started getting interested in hockey cards in teh 1990's. So naturally I got into collecting hockey autographs shortly after.
In 1990, hockey had 3 new sets (Upper Deck, Score, and ProSet) to break the Topps/OPC 30+ year stranglehold on hockey cards. 1990 was an interesting year, as there were lots of big time rookie cards -Fedorov, Jagr, Roenick, Mogilny, Brodeur, Roenick, Lindros, etc.to create further interest.
UD was the high end, Score was dull with the ugly red borders, and ProSet had a multi-color look I immediately liked - so I went for those. Years later, I have decided the ProSets are quite ugly but it doesn't matter.
The best part of 1990 ProSet is the cards are dirt cheap as they were massively overproduced (you can pick up waxboxes for $10 or less), it has loads of popular guys (the downside is the set is 705 cards), and lots of collectors got these signed.
Over the years I have been working on this one on and off. Right now I have 216 of the 705 - including Joe Sakic, Brett Hull, Mario Lemieux, Jeremy Roenick, Paul Coffey, Wayne Gretzky, and many others. I posted my set wantlists here.
Other than an Andy Moog success earlier this year, I haven't gotten any for this set in over a year. I got Franklu38, a member on SCN, obsessed with collecting hockey autographs and he has started working on the set also. So he gotten me interested in the set again.
So this week we traded doubles. I sent him quite a few guys that no longer sign that I got in the 1990s (including Sakic). Three days I found a package with this amazing lot of 29 cards I needed scanned below:

We used the site's Trade Manager and have since left each other positive feedback. I suggest every Premium Member use the Trade Manager in order help us build (positive and negative) reputations for collectors.
For you hockey fans, I believe the vast majority (if not all) of these guys sign through the mail for free.
On another note, I learned a very valuable lesson about scanning in creating this post. The cards in the middle of this section look dull, and they really are not. The reason is that I was lazy and did not put down the cover on my scanner... so I now know I need to do that in the future.
